Nuts & Bolts

  • BUGS has a dress code and uniform policy for tops/shirts. BUGS students must wear a green or white top with a BUGS logo. Click bugsbrooklyn.org/uniform-policy for info and link to order uniforms

  • Students are provided with laptops for in-school use. The goal of the 1:1 Chromebook program is to support instruction in the classroom.

  • Students are not permitted to use cell phones in school. Cell phones are safely stored during the school day to minimize distractions and build engagement and social skills.

  • BUGS Offers a FREE after-school program.  Sports, arts, and enrichment activities are provided by IACRL via a DYCD (SONYC) grant.

Applications for after-school will be available in August here.

  • Our students take New York State exams in English Language Arts and Mathematics. 8th grade students take Living Environment and the Biology Regents exam and students ready to participate in accelerated math take the Algebra 1 Regents. BUGS also administers our own assessments.

Free breakfast & lunch

We are pleased to announce that all meals are free to all students this year. However, we still need all families to fill out a meal application every year. Increased returns directly impact our funding, and it only takes a few minutes.

Meal applications can be completed online at www.myschoolapps.com. You only need to fill out one application for your household. Contact the school if you would like to fill out a paper application instead.

The application is available in multiple languages via a drop-down menu in the upper right hand corner.  You will need to have the following information ready to complete the application:

  • The names and incomes of every member of your household

  • The school, grade, birthdate of every student in your household. (Optional)

  • The last 4 digit of your social security number

Click here for the School Food Menu (PreK - 8 Express Hot Lunch)

Submit your meal application today.

We need every family to submit one every year in order to continue our funding!
